FAQ
Where are you located?
We are located in Dayton, OH. We serve the surrounding Dayton community through our Foster Home program.
Do you take owner surrenders?
We take a limited number of owner surrenders a year. Our main focus is on cats and kittens living in unsafe conditions or who are in need of medical intervention.
Do you take dogs? Or do you have adoptable dogs?
Nope, we are a feline only rescue. However, there are many wonderful rescues in the area who have adoptable dogs! You can check out places like Our Farm Sanctuary, Joseph's Legacy, Adopt A Pit, Miami Valley Pit Crew, and many others. Additionally, the local shelters such as SICSA and the Humane Society of Greater Dayton adopt out dogs as well.
Do you help wildlife?
We are not licensed to handle wildlife, and therefore, our rescue does not help in situations that involve wildlife. We recommend searching for a wildlife rehabilitation center or group who specializes in the type of wildlife you are seeking help for.
Where can we meet your adoptable cats?
We are located in 4 PetSmarts in the Dayton Area. Our adoption ready cats are often located in the cages at PetSmart.
Dayton Mall PetSmart - Located on Miamisburg-Centerville Road, down the street from the Dayton Mall
Feedwire PetSmart - Located on Feedwire Road; Our adoption zone is located on the Pet Hotel side
Beavercreek PetSmart - Located on North Fairfield Road, across from the Fairfield Mall and near the Nutter Center
Huber Heights PetSmart - Located on Old Troy Pike
How can I adopt?
Check out our available cats on Facebook or the Adoptable Cats page and then complete an adoption application at http://apply.lifelinecats.org.
What are the requirements for adoption?
All potential adopters must meet a minimum set of requirements:
Either own your own home or have landlord approval to own pets (we will call your landlord)
Have all current pets up to date on core vaccines (Combo Vaccine and Rabies) and spayed/neutered
Understand that we have a strict No Declaw Policy
Why do you have a No Declaw Policy?
We believe, as do many vets and animal rights advocates, that paws need claws. If you would like to do more reading, we recommend checking out the The Humane Society of the United States article on Declawing.
What are your adoption fees?
Our adoption fees depend on a few things, and therefore, we have different adoption categories.
Domestic (Short-Hair or Long-Hair) Cats and Kittens - $95
Siamese Mix Cats and Kittens - $125
Legacy Cats and Kittens - $150 - $500
Additionally, some of our cats receive sponsored adoptions (meaning a donor has covered part or all of their adoption fee). These cats are typically specially marked on their PetSmart card or advertised as sponsored on Facebook. These fees range typically from $0 to $75.
What is included in the adoption fee?
All cats/kittens in our care come spayed/neutered, combo-tested for FIV/FeLV, given age appropriate vaccines, dewormed, and flea treated. Additionally, we take care of any illnesses or injuries that the cat may have come in with. If an individual were to complete this vetting on their own it would typically run them about $250 to $500 depending on the vet and where they live.
What is a Legacy Cat?
Our Legacy Cats are typically purebred cats who have come to us from either breeders or current owners who purchased them from breeders. They serve a very important role in our rescue! Their adoption fees help us pay for additional vetting for other cats who were not born with the same privileges afforded purebred cats. By taking on a handful of legacy cats a year, we are able to help offset the costs of additional vetting such as eye enucleations, leg amputations, critical care for illnesses, and other various extraneous injuries/illnesses. We call them Legacy Cats because their role in the rescue lives on past their adoption, they create a legacy of helping others.
Can I sponsor a cat for adoption?
Absolutely! You can either sponsor a specific cat/kitten or just generally donate towards adoption fees.
How can I donate?
Check out our Donate! tab, we accept both cash donations and donations of items such as litter, food, litterboxes, toys, etc.
